Soul Rest Saturday is a one-day retreat created for pastors and ministry leaders who carry responsibility, attend constantly to others, and rarely have unhurried time with God. This day offers a rhythm of silence, prayer, guided reflection, and spaciousness—so your body, mind, and spirit can slow down together.
You will be welcomed into a calm, supportive environment where the pace is intentionally unhurried. The day is designed to be accessible for those who have never participated in a silent or contemplative retreat before, with structure, guidance, and optional spiritual direction available throughout.
Soul Rest Saturday is a simple invitation: to step out of constant motion for a few hours, to listen beneath the noise, and to allow rest to do its work in you.

The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught.
Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them,
“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

She holds a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies with expertise in contemplative leadership and conflict resilience. Her approach draws on Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and spiritual formation and is informed by reflective, dialogue-based practice.
She is a public scholar and researcher. She creates accessible scholarship and designs evaluation and learning studies so organizations can verify outcomes. Her work integrates cultural humility and pluralism, making space for the complexity of identities and cultures present in teams and communities. In her practice, spiritual direction as a leadership posture shapes how people guide groups and organizations.
Her teaching background includes undergraduate and graduate courses in Christian spirituality, leadership, and pluralism. She has led programs in dialogue and peace education and has spent twenty years integrating contemplative practices in teaching and ministry within Nazarene higher education. She has directed international experiential courses in Rwanda and Kenya, along the Camino in France and Spain, and in Colombia, Jamaica, Ghana, Canada, and Ukraine. Current work includes Pathways to Peace, spiritual accompaniment for individuals and small groups, and the design of learning journeys, retreats, and pilgrimages for values-driven organizations. Julene shares reflections on contemplative peace leadership at her Substack, Human Is a Verb.
Julene is an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene on the New England District.

Time for communal sharing as we close our day together.
Many of us intend to be still, to listen, and to make space for God in our daily lives. Yet bodies shaped by urgency and responsibility often need a shared rhythm to slow down and settle. Silence in retreats provides that rhythm—offering a communal experience of silence and rest that helps open us to deeper listening, both together and later in personal prayer.
This retreat is for Christian leaders who carry the responsibility of caring for others and are in need of rest themselves. If you serve as a pastor, board member, small group leader, or in any ministry leadership role within your church community, you are welcome here.
The fee per person for a Soul Rest Saturday retreat is $20. We will send more information on how to pay with your registration confirmation email.
The retreat will be at the North Street Community Chapel, a Church of the Nazarene in Hingham, MA.
Please note: Regular parking is available further up Thaxter Street at Hersey Field. There are also a few parking spots along North Street, but pay close attention to the street signage. Parking behind the church should be reserved for those for whom accessibility is a concern. This is stacked parking only, and vehicles should pull all the way forward to the fence. Please avoid parking on the sidewalk, as this creates an unsafe situation for pedestrians and passing cars, and the police will take notice.
If you have never taken one before these are a great place to begin! You will have time to chat in the beginning and as you reflect at the end of your time together. There is also individual spiritual direction available throughout the day until spots are filled. We encourage you to give this type of retreat a try and simply notice how it feels!
